This is the first film in the new Salon Maker Series, that I am creating with Salon Design. The first artist to be featured is the uber-talented Christina Watka! Christina is a site-specific installation artist who makes gorgeous, contemplative work, inspired by the natural world. Turns out, she also lives up the street from me, here in Maine!

I wanted to create a visual diary of sorts to capture the light through the windows, the sounds, the emotions, the mundane activities of being home with my family during this quarantine. This has been a strange time, a sweet time, a trying time, a long time. As hard as it is to find personal space, it really is nice to have everyone together.

Shot on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K

Directed by Sam Brosnan, this 2019 film, whose title comes from a 1964 painting by Red Grooms, tells the story of a group of young New York-based avant-garde artists who in the years following World War II discovered the pleasures of summering and working in Maine. They became some of the most successful and important artists of their generation, charting new directions for contemporary art. Their work presented a return to realism and figuration in the face of Abstract Expressionism, the style then dominating the increasingly important center of international contemporary art in New York. Their accomplishments formed another chapter in the story of Maine’s ongoing role in American art.

Told through compelling interviews with Alex Katz, Lois Dodd, Yvonne Jacquette and Mimi Gross, the film provides insight into what brought these wonderful artists to Maine and what contribution Maine had on their careers.

All art lovers know the name Wyeth. N.C. Andrew. Jamie. But it was Andrew’s wife, Betsy, who had the most profound influence on this American art dynasty.

“Betsy’s World” shines a new light on Andrew Wyeth’s greatest works, which owe their very existence to Betsy’s vision. Shot in the rooms, fields, and private islands that have served as subject, muse, and home to the Wyeths, and featuring rare interviews with both Wyeth sons, Jamie and Nicky, this documentary short will show you that art is bigger than the person holding the paintbrush.
